This week we interview Chad Uecker, organizer of the Conclave of Gamers. CoG is in the process of raising money to expand Conclave 2014 on Kickstarter. What is the Conclave of Gamers? The Conclave of Gamers is a gaming convention in the Denver area that focuses on table-top gaming of all kinds: board and card games, role-playing games and miniature games. We have scheduled games, events and tournaments, but we also encourage open gaming. So, everyone who comes is encouraged to bring some of their favorite games to share and teach. You are welcome to ask to join any game that isn’t full and start any game as long as there is an available table. We’re also a convention that wants to expand the gaming hobby. Therefore, we are open to all level of gamers. We can help you find a great game to play whether you are new to the hobby or a veteran. Except for a couple of tournaments, all of our games will have the rules explained before play begins, so this is a great opportunity to give gaming a try! How long has CoG been running? This will be our 3rd year. How many attendees do you had in the past and how many expect to have this year? The first year we had 80 people, the second year we had 100 and for our third we’re expecting 250 – 400+ attendees. We’ve added RPG’s and miniatures for next year, a sanctioned Puffy Billy tournament and have moved to a great venue. What kind of events will you have? We’re still at the beginning of scheduling events but we already have: * a game developer’s area for beta/play testing – we already have 5 developers who are on board and two others that are tentative. * a Puffing Billy tournament (train games) * Flames of War and De Bellis Antiquitatis tournaments (miniatures games) * plans for a variety of board game tournaments * plans for a variety of scheduled RPG’s including the standards along with a new RPG: Shaintar. In addition, as an open gaming convention, there will be hundreds of other games played throughout the weekend as our attendees can start any of their own games or check out a game from our board game library. Any specific con events you would like to highlight? As always we’ll have a table-top gaming auction, for people to buy and sell used games. Anything else you’d like to mention? The beginning of next month will bring Coloradans a new geek convention. Rocky Mountain Con will debut on November 9th & 10th at the DIA Crowne Plaza hotel. For more information on the con, see the Rocky Mountain Con event listing.   We interviewed Tim, the convention organizer and this is what he had to say. What kind of con is Rocky Mountain Con? Rocky Mountain Con really is about all things geek. We are working hard to bring in something for everyone. How long has Rocky Mountain Con been running? This is the first of what we hope to be many Rocky Mountain Con’s. We have been wanting to do this for years and thought now is the time. How did you get connected with Aurora Rise? To be honest I have been on the Board of Directors for Aurora Rise since day one. Many of the others helping with this convention also help with Aurora Rise. How many attendees do you expect to have? By our numbers we are looking to have between 2-5 thousand people attend. Since this really is about charity we hope we have even more so we are trying to get the word out as much as we can. What kind of vendors will you have? We have worked very hard to get all kinds of vendors in from comics, games, anime, cosplay, toys and scifi. How many vendors? We just opened up more vendor space by moving the gaming area to its own room so we are looking to add a lot more to our list and in Artist Alley. Right now we have over 20 and adding everyday. Any specific con events you would like to highlight? We are really excited that are panels are going to be more on the learning side. We are calling it Comics U but it is so much more then that. We want people to really learn how to get into comics and hoe to make things for their costumes and more. What kind of game events will you have? We will feature sanctioned Yu-Gi-Oh, HeroClix and Magic The Gathering tournaments in the gaming area and are looking to add more as we speak. This week we talk to Justin Suzuki (@JustinSuzuki), the organizer for the ThanksGaming charity event. This event is held at Total Escape Games in Broomfield Colorado on Sunday November 2nd,  for more information, prices, location, & how to register see the calendar event. What is Thanksgaming? ThanksGaming is a tabletop gaming day that is held for charity. How did you choose Broomfield FISH to benefit? What do they do? Total Escape Games and those who help organize ThanksGaming wanted the Autumn event to help out food banks. We also wanted to pick a local charity to help out. Last year we picked Broomfield FISH because they provide holiday meals to families in need. FISH is a local food bank and charity. How much of the proceeds go to Broomfield FISH? 100% of the money goes to charity. Right now we are lucky in the fact that TEG gives us the space for free and we have zero overhead. It will be my goal to keep it that way if at all possible, but as the event has grown I can see the possibility of needing a larger space. How long has Thanksgaming been running? ThanksGaming has been running for a three years now. It started out being called, Rise of the Wombat. How many attendees do you expect to have? We expect to have at least 80 attendees. 80 attendees is quite a lot, can the TEG store handle that many or do you have additional space? TEG is able to handle 8 game tables going at once. So six players at each table. Plus the landlord of the shopping center has agreed to let us use an empty storefront to allow us to run more tables. Plus all 80 don’t play at once. We have three game slots throughout the day (9-1, 2-6, 7-11). What kind of events will you have?  For the first time we will have board gaming. [Organized by the Conclave of Gamers] Other than that we have a ton of fun games that still have spaces available. Any specific con events you would like to highlight? We’ll be having several drawings for additional donations to Broomfield FISH. Tell us more about the drawings What we will have is multiple prizes and spots in front of every prize for people to put tickets into. In a sense they are bidding on the prizes they want to win. If they get 20 tickets they can put all 20 into one prize draw to increase the chances of winning. Tickets are given out to everyone who plays in a game, plus you can buy more tickets and help us raise more money for FISH. Who are your sponsors for the drawings?
